Malingering and Brain Injury: A Panel Discussion and Webinar
Centre for Neuro Skills presents a webinar featuring top neuro and mental health clinician
Bakersfield, CA (December 3, 2020) – Three renown neuro and mental health specialists will discuss “Malingering and Brain Injury” in a free panel conversation and webinar on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at 10 a.m. PST. Malingering has been defined as “faking illness, consciously lying about a condition to gain a benefit and stopping when benefit is obtained.”
This course uses expert testimony, realistic examples and explores alternative explanations that can guide professionals to provide targeted care to injured workers displaying characteristics of malingering. Practical guidelines and effective management help the participants gain immediate intervention strategies to apply in their interactions.
The Panelists
- Dr. Matthew Ashley, a neurologist and Chief Medical Officer with CNS, received his M.D and J.D. degrees from Southern Illinois University. He trained at a national stroke center and is one of the few neurorehabilitation physicians who provide clinical services for post-acute care. Dr. Ashley brings a wealth of expertise to CNS, having treated a spectrum of patients recovering from brain injury.
- Chris Persel, M.A., CCM, CBIS, CPHM, is the Regional Director of Clinical Services and Behavior Programming and has been with CNS since its inception 40 years ago. Persel has extensive experience in behavior change programs and was named Outstanding Professional in the Field in 2014.
- David Vittoria, LCSW, MCAP, is SVP, Clinical Business & Product Development at Carisk Partners, where he provides clinical oversight of all workers’ compensation behavioral health programs. He has 30 years of experience in mental health and wellness and he is a recognized expert on substance use, severe mental illness, and trauma recovery.
Brain injuries (BI) affect approximately 42 million individuals worldwide each year and produce a wide variety of significant symptoms. Even a mild brain injury can impact an individual’s ability to perform daily activities or return to work. Although the injury may appear less intense, at times, individuals report severe symptoms, leading those involved in their care to question the validity of their claims.
CNS has provided brain rehabilitation services that have successfully allowed patients to return to normal activities. CNS currently operates a total of seven facilities throughout California and Texas, but serves patients from all over the country. CNS currently serves the following markets: Los Angeles, Dallas / Fort Worth, Houston, San Francisco and Bakersfield, with plans to open in Austin, TX in Spring, 2021.
