Philip de László

Hi, I saw you're adding new files of de László's paintings. Can you please upload this please [1]? Is a portrait of Augusta Victoria of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, last Queen Consort of Portugal, and it is in a public colleciton and I'm going to create an entry in Wikidata for it. No credit to Antonia Reeve on any of your image uploads

May I ask why you haven't credited Antonia Reeve to any of your image uploads that you pulled from https://www.delaszlocatalogueraisonne.com/? although the art themselves have lapsed their copyright, the trust holds the copyright of the photographs of the art listed on their site. Antonia Reeve is but one person or entity that has supplied the trust with copies of works by de Laszlo. Even though the copyright for almost all the works produced by the artist has technically expired (he has been dead for 86 years), the trust itself or other sources from which the portraits are taken are always listed as references and credit is given to the appropriate organizations/trusts, etc. Keivan.f^Talk 21:36, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

The Website clearly states the copyright of each image listed on their site, each image from their respective locations, for example, the image of Cecil of Chelwood, Edgar Algernon Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 1st Viscount is owned by the University of Birmingham Research and Cutural Collections and Philip de László Catalogue Raisonné website simply hosts those images, therefore copyright to that image is held by mentioned university and should be marked as: © University of Birmingham Research and Cutural Collections, this is not something that you have done, therefore you have broken the rules of this site. No, I have not. I'm starting to feel that this is you pursuing a personal vendetta because I removed your painting from the article on the princesses of Wales. Nevertheless, in case you are not aware, the official position taken by the Wikimedia Foundation is that "faithful reproductions of two-dimensional public domain works of art are public domain". The creator of those portraits has been dead for 86 years. There are copies of thousands of historical paintings (some of which are "owned" by the Royal Collection, or national portrait galleries, etc.) that are hosted on the Commons. In each case the URL to the source is included. Additionally, all works by de Laszlo were undeleted by an administrative decision back in 2018, after which I and many other users uploaded some of his other portraits, all of which can be found here. Nothing to do with vendetta, the website you referenced should not be the credit, but the credit listed next to the work hosted by that website, they have © clearly shown next to the work, I'm trying to be kind by alerting you first by not going through all your uploads and marking them for deletion, I get it, editors make mistakes sometimes. Additionally, a photograph is not a 'faithful reproduction', when you take photographs of an old painting, a new copyright is formed only for the photograph, if you saw the painting for yourself and photographed the painting, then you would hold that copyright, but in the case here, like mentioned above, a photograph of the portrait of Cecil of Chelwood, Edgar Algernon Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 1st Viscount is owned by the University of Birmingham Research and Cultural Collections, thus, they own the copyright for that photograph. @Hogyncymru Glad that this was a king warning or enquiry. In the past, I have dealt with people who have had malicious intentions and it's really hard to tell what each user's intentions or tone are when you cannot see them face to face. Anyway, I would not have uploaded any of his works had they not already been uploaded by dozens of other editors (you can check the category). But, on top of that, most of his works were undeleted back in 2018 and have since been in use in multiple articles (including this portrait of Princess Alice and this potrait of the Queen Mother from the ©Royal Collection). Pretty much all of the works shown on the trust's website have the © sign next to them but that has not stopped the Commons from hosting them because the author has been deceased for over 8 decades. I do understand the point you're making regarding an uploader taking a photograph of a portrait, but the two dimensional portrait of Mona Lisa or this one of Edward VII on the Commons do not appear to have been taken by any of our users, so I'm not sure if that's an obstacle when it comes to uploading historical paintings. Regarding the point you made about the names of collections missing from the info boxes, some of the works that I uploaded do contain the names of collections or trusts that currently posses them, including this portrait of Lady Leconfield. Truth be told, at some point I got lazy and did not include detailed information for each portrait but now I'm going back and adding the name of collections.
