Practiced sleep hygiene skills puts control in one’s own hands, so to speak. The risk of self-medicating is that it could lead to learned helplessness, thus diminishing one’s sense of control, etc. Logic aside, the good feeling one has following REM sleep is the reward/trigger toward more positive behaviors. Thanks for initiating discussion on sleep and how it serves well-being!
