Transparency[edit]
Well, in IE this "transparency" is grey --TarmoK 13:40, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
- Internet Explorer doesn't support transparency. dbenbenn | talk 15:36, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
- For as long as the most widely used internet browser doesn't support transparency, can we please have a copy with either a white background, or in a format that doesn't look as bad as this one in IE? -- Quistnix 08:17, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
- I couldn't agree more.
Use elsewhere to accompany link to Commons[edit]
Any problem loading copies to Wikicities for use in links to Commons? Robin Patterson 11:23, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
- Well, the Wikimedia Foundation doesn't release any rights to the logo. I guess you could use it on Wikicities under the "fair use" clause, but not otherwise. User:dbenbenn 17:47, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
"TM"[edit]
Shouldn't such images have a little "TM" or something, visibly stuck to their edge, to be fully protected legally? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 140.115.52.248 (talk • contribs) at 14:21, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Smaller size[edit]
User:Dbc334 just changed the image to be slightly smaller... I have no idea why. Anyone know? ~MDD4696 07:33, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
what do you mean protected?... it copied directly to my desktop

Metaphor?[edit]
Hi, I was wondering, what exactly does this logo represent, anyway? A blue arrow going around a red dot and heading off in the distance, containing smaller blue arrows going to the dot, doesn't really clarify the purpose of Wikimedia Commons concretely in my mind. --72.84.157.20 16:06, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Edit request[edit]
Please encase the file description with {{En}}. {{en|1=}} is not needed they're no links in the description. Thank you. Mlpearc (powwow) 05:25, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- Not done I don't see the point of doing this. It's fine as it is. Rd232 (talk) 14:44, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
Replace with optimized[edit]
{{editprotected}} Please replace with File:OptiCommons-logo.svg. Palosirkka (talk) 21:19, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
- Not done Sorry many users have concerns about your optimization (read your user talk page). Wikimedia logos do not need to be optimized and most are not under free licence (which means you should not modify it). --PierreSelim (talk) 06:04, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Invalid[edit]
Repair suggestions based on prior fixes by Rillke for similar issues with Creative Commons SVG logos:
- in SVG source line 8 replace "inkscape.sourceforge.net" by "sodipodi.sourceforge.net" for the URL of xmlns:sodipodi
- in SVG source line 11 replace "Wikimedia Logo" by "Wikimedia_Logo" to get a valid NMTOKEN (xml:id)
- on the protected file page add {{validSVG}}
- on this talk page disable or remove {{invalidSVG}} and {{edit request|technical=1}}

Update request[edit]
Please take the simplified version File:Commons logo optimized.svg by user: Pumbaa80 (from 03:28, 21. Mär. 2006) as he uploaded here, which is the real symmetrically version with real SVG elements as described her in the image description (as he mentioned here in the upload history, which has also simplified/corrected the Wikimedia logo; any mentioned Inkscape bug is not recognizable nor comprehensible). The current version is only a path mush somewhere, also the colors are not the fully original Wikimedia colors. Compare and upload please. PS: And also the current version is to hard cropped (as also user: Optimager has mentioned here 01:46, 19. Okt. 2005) this results in some resolution as a clipped rounding. -- Perhelion 22:56, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
- PS: I'm not the guy (as Palosirkka above) who is for simply cleanup SVG with a (buggy) tool. This version is new drawn, its simply corrected (if even slightly) with use of the SVG specified optimal elements. SVG is optimization for display. So no anxiety to take a smaller version. PPS: IMO Mediawiki is the greatest supporter of SVG in the world and Commons the greatest hoster of Mediawiki, so this Logo should represent at "minimum a good" SVG code. -- Perhelion 12:54, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Edit request[edit]
{{edit request}} --jckfa (talk) 09:42, 7 October 2018 (UTC)
Please replace the current version with the following version:
Comparison with current version (before):
Below I refer to different components of the symbol with the following terms:
circle = red circle
inner arrows = the seven smaller arrows (each of which is constructed with a head—a triangle—and a body, a rectangle)
outer arrow = the big arrow (made up of a head—a triangle—and a body—an S-like shape encompassing the inner arrows and circle)
Changes[edit]
(written like a Git commit using the imperative mood)
- Optically correct. Make inner arrow heads look like equilateral triangles.
- Improve consistency. Reuse head of inner arrow for (scaled up) head of outer arrow. In the current logo the head of the outer arrow is stylized and inconsistent with the heads of the inner arrows. Furthermore its complex shape doesn't scale as well as a basic triangle.
- Improve scalability. Thicken body of inner arrows and relieve congestion within outer arrow. The Commons logo is downscaled to a 16×16px favicon in web browser tabs so rendering should be as good as possible at such a small size.
- Clean up geometry. Construction should be pixel-perfect, curves smooth as butter.

xlink:href[edit]
"xlink:href" has been deprecated and should be replaced with "href". References to the xlink namespace can also be removed. --17jiangz1 (talk) 14:17, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

- @Jonteemil: Good point, xlink:href has only been deprecated since SVG 2, in that case, I guess keeping the xlink namespace would be preferred.--17jiangz1 (talk) 11:58, 7 May 2020 (UTC)

Change to {{PD-textlogo}}[edit]

- Not done In certain countires, this logo might be considered complex. As long as we have a free license for it, it's better to keep it as it is. Thanks for the suggestion. --Ruthven (msg) 09:17, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
